I recognize that understanding that we are triune beings is only an important first step in becoming healthy. Developing patterns and rhythms for exercising these aspects of our being is equally as important. In this blog post I want to discuss ways for us to create a rhythm and a schedule for doing things that bring better health to body, soul, and spirit. If we can learn when and how to feed these parts of our being we will be better equipped at creating a healthy being and maintaining it over the years. Let's look at what a rhythm and schedule could be for each aspect of your triune being.

Body

  • Daily we need to focus on caring for our physical needs and making sure we are listening for what we need.

  • Weekly we want to make sure we are both challenging our bodies to do more, and treating our bodies with something that helps or heals it. For a challenge this could be strength training a few times per week, playing a sport, or climbing a mountain. For a treat we try to incorporate a hot bath, a message, a delicious food, or something that makes us happy. If you are married and able I would also suggest sex as a weekly occurrence. Biblically we are also called to a weekly sabbath where we rest from work. This is extremely important for our physical wellbeing.

  • Monthly I would recommend seeing someone to help reduce your physical trauma stored in your body. There can be lots of forms of therapies that help with this, but I do suggest Splankna as a great way to help access it.

  • Annually we should be trying to take a few vacations per year that give us time and space to rest and recover from our regular life. We should also do wellness checks and see doctors as needed.

Soul

  • Daily we need to focus on caring for our soul's needs and making sure we are feeding it things that makes it healthy. Limit the junk food of TV, doom scrolling, and listening to bad music. Try and take in daily reading your Bible, filling your bucket with something that brings you joy and resting from all inputs for a small length of time.

  • Weekly we need to seek out biblical teaching, put ourselves in the company of other believers, and partake in a soul enhancing activity. For those who's souls comes alive in exercise, you can double up on this one with your body exercise. However, some of you may just need to make sure you are getting outside, creating something with your hands, or having a conversation with a friend. An obviously good thing for your soul is to attend a church service and a small group every week.

  • Monthly I would recommend seeing someone to help reduce the trauma and stress your soul is processing. There can be lots of forms of therapies that help with this, but I do suggest Splankna or cognitive awareness therapy as a great way to process through things that you are dealing with in your soul.

  • Annually we should be trying to take a few vacations per year that give us time and space to refocus on the Lord and what He is calling us to. This may be the same thing as your body's vacation, but even more likely, a vacation for the soul would include a Christian retreat of some sort. Ideally it would be structured in such a way that you could get healing for your body, soul, and spirit, however the annual time to reset your soul and what you are focused on is very important.

Spirit

  • Daily Your spirit is the part of you that connects to the Holy Spirit and is critical for your relationship with God. Give it time every day to connect with the Father. The term spiritual practices come from this need and you should partake in them every day. Feed your spirit things that bring it life like worship music, bible reading, praying, listening and meditating on the Father. Beginning to recognize that your spirit is separate from your soul is a good first step in giving it room to grow and speak. Do things every day that give your spirit time to communicate with God and with your soul. Listen for what God has to say to you and listen for what your spirit wants to speak to you as well.

  • Weekly we need to challenge our spirit to grow. Seek out things that challenge your deeper thoughts and emotions. Ponder things you can't make sense of. Stretch yourself in what you believe and try and have a better grasp on the Lord. Again, church and your small group can be great places for these interactions, but if your church isn't challenging your spirit enough, look for something deeper each week to stretch you a bit.

  • Monthly we need to be working through our spiritual traumas and challenging what we believe about ourselves and God. I would again recommend seeing someone who specializes in spiritual healing one to two times per month to process through agreements that you have made that are keeping you from fully experiencing the Lord and spiritual transformation.

  • Annually we would ideally have at least one time per year where we are removed from our day-to-day struggles and have time and space to focus on our spirit. This could be the same retreat you attend for your soul, it could be a deliverance session, or a conference that requires our spirits to engage in spiritual practices.

Conclusion

Finding balance among body, soul, and spiritual health is a lifelong journey that requires commitment and self-awareness. By prioritizing your well-being and implementing things in a strategic and rhythmic way, you can create a life that nurtures all aspects of your health. Remember, it takes intentionality to be a healthy triune being and the more you invest in all three parts of yourself, the more you will thrive in your whole being.
